Aotha
What is an Aotha?
An Aotha is a liquid-based creature of alien origins. When it is first “created,” its only function is to eat. This type of Aotha is called an “assimilator” because it tries to assimilate with any surrounding creature. Once it has selected its prey, it proceeds to engulf its prey. Once it has swallowed and digested its prey, the Aotha assimilator takes the form of whatever it has eaten and is forever bound to its prey’s appearance. This type of Aotha is called a “replica.”
Replicas can manipulate and transform different parts of the acquired body (For example, it can form tentacles or extra limbs to the body if it needed to) however, it cannot completely alter the species of the host. (For example, if the Aotha takes the appearance of a dog, it cannot completely transform into a cat) An Aotha replica has all the abilities of its acquired form and more. They can also regenerate any damaged part of its body, making them practically invincible. An Aotha replica has incredible strength and agility, making them deadly in combat. On top of that, an Aotha can also secrete and acidic substance if threatened. This substance is not only used as an offense but it can be used protect the Aotha from an extremely hazardous, environment such as inside another predator’s stomach. Aothas may seem impossible to kill but they have one major weakness; frost. (Because they are liquid based, Aothas can be frozen and shattered in very low temperatures)
Aotha replicas generally consume live organisms or raw meat, but are not limited to the surrounding species. They also seem to be quite cannibalistic as they can eat other Aothas if no suitable prey it present. Most Aothas display little or no emotion towards anything. An Aotha replica is simple-minded at first but as it develops, its intelligence grows. In a matter of days, an Aotha can completely blend in with its surrounding species. The Aothas’ main purpose in life is to replace its prey’s species. (Fortunately, only one Aotha so far had ever invaded: the one that was eaten by Wynn)
