Description: Lamoine is a hybrid mix between a merfolk and siren (deep sea variant), a rare mix. This biology falls into conflict due to the fact that merfolk are naturally empathetic and caring towards humans while sirens are built to hunt humans. The conflict of these two components have led to her trying to find a possible way to coexist with humanity while also meeting her dietary needs. After succumbing to her urges once, Vinomi rescued her prey from Lamoine believing her to be much like the other predators she's faced against. After begging for forgiveness, Vinomi understands she was only acting based on nature and pleads for her to help her find a way to combat/satiate her hunger for humans. Vinomi brings her in to try and direct her hunger towards something else.
Lamoine herself is a very capable predator, especially in aquatic environments. Her siren digestive system is designed to contain and carry prey whole, with organs capable of being stretching and compressing to be able to contain prey as large as herself. The downward facing barbs in Lamoine's throat make it so food can only travel towards the stomach. The prey is immediately dropped into the rumen, a pseudo-stomach that is both designed to hold prey in order for a slower digestion and to hold in a mate for reproduction. The only way for sirens to reproduce is if the male is consumed by the female whole, almost always resulting in the digestion and death of the male shortly after. The rumen's acids are much lower than a normal stomach's, and can hold prey in for up to two months before total digestion. Past a second esophagus lies the Abomasum, which acts as the true stomach. It's function is to digest tougher materials and a faster method to gaining nutrients than the rumen. Not much can weather the acids of the abomasum for long, but exceptionally tough materials may linger as residue in the stomach for years. Indigestible material here may cause complications however, as there is no way out of the abomasum. Should the indigestible material be enough of an issue, it may require surgery to remove.

Barbed esophagus damn. Two of them too

A lot of predatory fish have barbs in their throats so I figured it'd be a neat thing to include. Also her digestive system is partially inspired by that of a cow's, lol.

Pretty awesome! But also scary. I like the cow inspiration

You said it almost always results in death, are there any other cases of the male not dying?

They'd have to be surgically removed or the female siren would have to have their esophagus de-barbed. It's pretty uncommon since sirens are technologically limited due to living underwater most of the time and can't benefit from modern human technology due to the fact sirens are still a predator towards humans. I guess also a tube could be stuck down the throat to block the barbs.
I should also note that this is why sirens aren't as populated as humans in this universe because the cost of reproduction is the life of the father, and a small but noticeable percentage of sirens don't feel that giving up their life/the life of their partner is worth for that of an offspring. They're not in population decline, but it has stagnated since the late 1800's.

Does the birth canal go to her mouth?

Sheesh, my son says it sucks to be a guy when it comes to courtship. If only he knew how bad it is for other species, to say nothing of fantasy! It only ever gets worse lol!

So, how did Vinomi rescue her prey? Or was that meant to imply she rescued someone before they got eaten?
Posted by AgentV 11 months ago Report
Yeah Lamoine's prey was about chest length in her mouth when Vinomi showed up so they were saved just before the point of no return
