Emma slugged Max harshly in the shoulder, very nearly knocking him onto the floor with her tomboyish strength. The girl may have only been a few months older than her friend, but in her mind, that was more than enough to declare herself in charge whenever their parents weren't around to tell them what to do. Plus, it was her birthday. Nine years old today. She had the right to act up, just a little. Her mother always told her never to let a man talk back to her like that. “What was that for?” Max cried out.
“You said if we were gonna play house, I could stay home while you went to work.” answered Emma rather sternly. “It's a man's position to stay and keep the home clean.”
Max gave a long sigh. The girl had anyways been like this. Emphatically insistent that boys were under girls, with the kind of confidence only a toddler who was told something by their parents could have. Conversely, his own parents had drilled into him to never let his emotions control him, and he was proud to think that he was much more mature than most kids that were his age. “Okay. Okay…” The boy slowly stood up and dusted his nonexistent suit off. “What do you want to eat?”
Emma's face softened. She did feel a little guilty for being so forceful. But… she couldn't show weakness! Least of all to a boy. The girl shifted her lips to one corner as she thought. “Meat, for sure!”
Max groaned. The girl always wanted meat. He didn't think he'd ever seen her eat her greens. In real life or in play for that matter. Emma was such a one-note song… So predictable. He didn't know why he kept playing with her, sometimes…

Max spent some time pushing through the small crowd and checking every floor of his aging, shag-carpeted house. Typical. Whenever she was annoying, he couldn't be rid of her, and whenever he wanted to have a heart to heart, she was nowhere to be found.
It took some fifteen minutes before Max thought to check outside. There standing on the driveway with her mother looming over her, was his childhood friend. He could faintly make out her mother's words as he cracked open the front door…
“Be sure to tell Mike's parents thank you for sharing his meat today.”
“I know! I know mom…” Emma seemed more than a little embarrassed. “Geez. You don't have to treat me like a little kid anymore…”
Max stood there, confused at what he'd just heard. Who was this Mike? A farmer maybe?” Unhindered, Max plainly stepped outside to wait politely for his turn to talk with the girl. It was only when Emma's mom clammed up at the sight of him, that he became concerned.
Emma rolled her eyes at her mother's behavior. “I got this mom. Chill out.”
The elder stared at the two for what seemed like a brief eternity, before giving a sigh that suggested it was against her better judgment to leave, as she did…
Initially, Max didn't believe a single word that came out of the girl's mouth. Stories about a long established, clandestine cult of female cannibals seemed more than a little farfetched, though “cult” wasn't exactly the word the girl used.
The more Emma spoke, with such conviction and passion, the more Max came to realize that, in fact, she was absolutely serious about the whole thing. Which meant she and her mother were either completely delusional or…

Emma gave Max a hearty slap on the back, and smiled warmly. “How's it going Maxy?”she asked, looking over his brand new, dark blue suit. The very one she'd asked him to go to the dance in some month ago. It was hard to believe the two of them had known each other for ten years now, since they were five. Honestly, sometimes she didn't know why he stuck around her like this, especially since he'd known her dark little secret for a few years now. To say she was a blunt, and frankly dangerous, individual was an understatement, and yet, every time their eyes met, she saw nothing but patience.
Her mother always told her that good, obedient men like him were the rarest of jewells, and never to squander it, or smother them by going too far. She was trying, she really was to be a better, stronger woman for him, but change took time. Especially when she had a reputation to keep in school.
Max just shrugged and smiled. “You tell me. I'm feeling pretty good, I think but uhhh.” He looked around. Fidgeting a bit. “Not gonna lie. I'm also feeling pretty nervous, you know? You're gonna lead the steps right? Cuz… I have ZERO idea what I'm doing.”
Ema giggled boyishly, then offered her hand for him to take. “Sure, Bologna.” she began, using the same nickname she'd teasingly had for him since he was Thirteen. “I'll lead, but you gotta promise to follow, mkay?”
“Fine… fine, Sharptooth.” he responded, smiling flirtatiously as he gave out his own nickname for the cannibal.

Emma stared angrily at the computer. “You stupid piece of work!” she blurted out loudly. “I swear you just don't want me to make the cut!” She'd only graduated a week ago, and already she was completely overwhelmed by everything she'd need to unlearn to even have a chance at her choice of college. As it turned out, letting the computer do it all for you led to broken code that was hard to fix, half of the time, and didn't exactly foster the skills to rise above, either. Still… she couldn't give up now. Not if she was going to have a job steady enough to allow her to propose to Max some day…
What was worse, she'd been so eyes-deep in her studies that she hadn't even prepared at all for the feast of Donetta. An important holiday in her family's circles. Traditionally, she was supposed to show up with a pig, rather than a date. Refusing to bring her own meat would be a bit of a faux pas, but not unheard of. Some women just… grew attached to their meat. Still, she'd barely given herself enough time to chat with Max. Much less go hunting for some poor, ignorant sod or blindly eager meatslut. If it was between one or the other, she’d much rather spend time with her childhood friend.
After staring at the screen for what felt like half a day, Emma begrudgingly pulled herself away, in the hope that a bit of a break would help her get her mind straight. The least she could do was invite her boyfriend now. Springing the whole thing on him at the last second would be pretty careless, even for her.

“Hello?” Max's voice was always much deeper on the phone than it was in real life.
“Hey Bologna…” Emma, by contrast, always felt that her own voice felt like an out of tune trumpet when played back to her. “You uhh… You doing anything this Saturday?” Despite the girl's best efforts to sound nonchalant, she couldn't stop a few nervous cracks from showing through in her tone. “B-because if you are, you're doing something different instead.”
Even if it was unseen, Max gave a broad smile. The girl always had a tendency to try to lean into being authoritative when she was nervous. It was a force of habit. One that he'd always thought was a little cute.
“Actually I was just gonna gorge myself on cheese sticks and play some Action Boar Three.” he confessed. “So… what am I doing instead?”
Emma took a moment to still her breath and heart. She'd asked the boy out numerous times before, but for some reason it never got any easier for her. She'd gotten past the hard part now. All that was left was to reel him in.
“Little biennial party my t-temple holds at one of the parks it owns.” she explained. “Big dinner and all that. I'm supposed to bring a guy with me.”
“A guy with you… for?” asked Max playfully.
“Oh don't be like that… We don’t only use men for meat, you know…”
Both froze for a moment, feeling something build up inside themselves. Something simultaneously awkward and uplifting at the same time.
“I do?” Max egged on, knowing exactly what the girl wanted to say, but not wanting to answer for her. He wanted to hear it from her himself. It wasn’t the first time they’d had this dance together, but they’d never gotten any better at it, even after years.
Alright you got me…” She took a deep breath on the other end before continuing. “I want to do this… f-for a date. Like… a big one. You know?”
Max smiled once again. That was all he needed from her. “Well, that defs sounds a lot more fun than just nibbling on fried cheese.” he replied. “And I bet the food’ll be infinitely better too.”
“Pfft. You know it. So… See you there? I’ll pick you up at like… noon?”
“Sounds like a plan. See you then Emms.”
At that both hung up, and fell back to catch their breath as though they’d just been fighting a days long battle with their own minds. Though Emma came from a matriarchal culture that she firmly believed in, there was still a bit of… social awkwardness in that she always had to be the one to ask. Max had accepted that little tidbit of her beliefs, but there was always that background noise that they were going about everything backwards.
Though, now the hard part was over. Now they could just enjoy themselves when the day finally came. The truth was… Max could do so even more, for every day that led up. Ever since that day when he’d found out about her family’s secret, there’d always been a certain curiosity that burned inside of him about the whole thing. How did the men in her little commune feel about being… chosen? Would it be an honor? Would all or even just a few of them go into everything willingly? Would even a fraction of them be able to… enjoy it?
His mind was filled with questions like this more often than he’d care to admit, and often he’d be unable to avoid the temptation of touching himself to the thought of Emma being the one to do it all to him. There was no question in his mind that… although he’d never grown up in the same ideology that she had, he’d been heavily influenced by it all. The two walked over to her antiquated vehicle, giving the obligatory, overly flowery compliments on each other’s appearance. Both of them knew it was all for show, and in truth, both of them enjoyed the bit of play, breaking into laughter as she reached for his door.
Once Max was inside, Emma made her way to the other side. “Buckle up.” she insisted. “I don’t transport ground beef.” The girl then followed her own advice and placed one hand on the wheel, and another on the key. “By the way… just… make sure you stay close to me alright? Don’t want anyone getting the wrong idea about you. You’re mine, after all.”
Max rested his elbow on the window, and placed his smiling face into his hand. “It all seems a bit… dangerous.” he replied absently. “It almost sounds like you’re expecting them to mistake me for an entree hmm?” Though Max spoke only playfully, in the back of his mind he couldn't help but see images of her… carving him. “Oh relax, would you? I'll be there to make sure everything's on the up and up.” the girl insisted, for the moment not noticing her boy's… daydreaming state. “You’re gonna be there as my date. Not my meat. End of story. M’kay?”
Max only gave a giggle in response. He kept his eyes on her as she struggled to get her antique of a vehicle moving again. She really was trying, hard. Knowing her, she'd probably spent the whole week studying and just… didn't get around to looking for another. The drive all the way out to the secluded park was a quiet one, for the two of them, but it wasn't an awkward silence. Any two bit hack could see the enraptured way Max stared at Emma, and though she did her best to remain stoic, she couldn't help but feel like she too was walking on air. Once under the shade of the heavily forested park, Emma was certain to open the door for him and take his hand across the gravel parkway. It was something she'd spent far longer than she cared to admit training him on. Letting her do little things like that. At first, he'd been quite embarrassed by the reversal, but in time he’d came to see it as little tokens of affection from her.
Before the two had even made it to the grassy main, they were struck with the scent of grilling meat, mingled with the sweet tang of barbecue sauce in the air. Though he hadn't noticed it before, Max now made out thin plumes of smoke that rose above the forest's canopy, and the muffled sounds of gagged young men whining and whimpering. He'd been to feasts with Emma before, but they'd always been… after the fact. At that point, the meal was far beyond complaining. He'd never really seen the… more intense parts of the process.
Emma seemed to catch the way his breath quickened as they approached. Her hand gripped his tightly, before she pulled him close. “Relax, Bologna.” she insisted. I’m here to make sure nobody slaps you on a grill.” She then quickly reached down to goose his rear, getting an appropriately feminine gasp from him. “Besides, if anyone is going go bite into your butt it’s gonna be me. Ya got that?”
Max blushed at the statement, for more reasons than she realized, or so he imagined at any rate.
Soon enough, the wall of trees was near enough that the two could make out some of the faces nearby. Naturally *she* was there, front and center like the attention hog she’d always been. Emma let out a frustrated groan, just audible enough for Max to hear beside her, without culling the girl’s wrath.
“Emma hon~” Veronica’s friendly voice was a facade, both Max and Emma knew. The perfectly permed blonde girl was always a ball of nerves, easily frayed when things didn’t go her way. “Nice to see you~” That wasn’t so much a lie… as much as Emma wanted to tell herself it was at any rate. Veronica didn't dislike her. Rather, it was that… at her heart, she was an absolute control freak. The buxom girl was two years Emma’s senior, and had been groomed from an early age to be an arch-priestess in their church. Leadership was her right, as she saw it. Consequently, she tended to demand respect, and come across as a little bit… self-superior. “Enjoy the party you two~” She said before looking Emma square in the eyes. “We’ll put him where he belongs later~”

Max pouted for her. He may have been a bit… titillated at the moment, but he knew when his girl was upset. Right now he had a job to do. “Oh… don’t worry about her, Sharptooth. She’s just being the same old V as when we were kids. Not worth your time getting upset over. Kay?”
“Yeah I guess…” Emma grumped, before taking a deep, cleansing breath and looking around. “Still. They’ve already got a smorgasbord of meat here. No need for her to be pushy.”
Max’s eyes darted around the park. Emma wasn’t wrong. Not three yards from them was a large, public grill, on top of which two bound pigs squirmed and writhed. Embers and smoke rose from underneath them in a consistently bright plume that left no question to the fact that they were cooking alive. Perfect examples of what Emma’s religion thought of men. Each of the poor lads’ heads were covered with a black hood, and from the sound of things, they were rather harshly gagged underneath.
Despite his best efforts, Max was utterly glued to the scene, no matter how badly the more reasonable side of him wanted to look away. One of them had been turned onto his backside, his ass sizzling like a porterhouse, which allowed Max to notice something that might have been shocking to him, years ago. Max cracked an uncertain smile. “”Heh… I thought you said you were gonna protect me babe?” he asked.

Max bit his lip. “I guess not~” came his reply after several intense seconds of mental images ran through his mind. “You weirdo~”
“Pfft. Men.” Emma circled him for a moment, then tugged at both his arms as she backed up. “Especially outsider men.”
“Aww come on Sharptooth.” Max took her lead as the two proceeded deeper into the park. “Outsider? Really? After all this time?”
Emma pursed her lips to one side, feigning deep thought. “Well… I guess that is a bit mean.” she mulled to herself. “But that’s one of the things I love about you. You’re not… you know… one of them.” she pointed to a nervous looking boy on a nearby table, who’s girl was pressing a long, pointed pole into his ass. “But you still wanna hang out despite it all~”
Max swallowed hard, watching the doomed lad with the same intensity of the girl that was skewering him. She was savoring every second of the process which…. Max supposed… was the very least she could do. That is… to give the boy a few final minutes of relevance. Much like the pork chops on the grill, his little weapon was completely missing, which called to attention the terrifying aspect of what was happening. Right now, it was probably more real to him than anyone else around him and Max couldn't help but wonder what exactly was going through his mind in all this.
With a bit of willpower, Max was able to return his attention to Emma. For the longest time he felt as though he wanted to say something but… he had no idea how he was going to go through with it all. “Okay but… be honest with me.” Those words found their way past his lips before he felt he was truly ready to follow them up with anything. He paused uncomfortably before determining that he'd already crossed the line. Might as well go the distance now…
“Have you ever thought about… you know…” He rubbed the back of his neck as a twinge of embarrassment shot down his spine. Why couldn't he say those two words?
“Eating you?” Emma finally finished for him. “I mean… yeah… sometimes.” She looked down as she answered, and took a swing at his rear end. “You know you've got a real juicy ass right?”
Max chuckled. “So… is that like… what you imagine… eating off of me first?”
“Sometimes yeah.” the girl confessed. “Why? You're not really thinking about…”
“Who me?” Max theatrically placed a hand over his chest. “Naww. I've got too much of the old survival instinct.” he then added, without much in the way of conviction. Something they could both hear in his tone.”
Both looked away for a moment, trying not to say or lead into an impulse that they might regret. The place was really starting to hop, so to speak. The voices of all the boys present were starting to die down. Either because they were all past the point of no return or freshly gagged. However for every silenced pig there were two new women who arrived, adding to the constant chatter around them.
Emma couldn't deny, something inside her was starting to tingle as well. Something she thought she could repress before now. There was a hefty heat that blanketed the park as time went on. In part due to both the summer sun, and the growing number of lit fires that were spread throughout the territory. “Hey! Emma hon…” Veronica’s voice, if nothing else, managed to pull Emma’s mind out of the cannibalistic gutter, for the moment. “Don’t you think it’s about time you put that cutey’s ass on the grill? It’s no fair that everyone else has already slapped their guys over a fire and you’re still holding greedily onto yours…” Though she spoke in as amiable a tone as she could manage, there was a certain sharpness to her words. A lack of patience. “Everyone’s already asking me what you’re gonna do with him, and I need to know which station to clean out before you start.”
Emma puffed her chest out angrily. “Max isn’t here as my pig. He’s…”
“I mean…” Max interrupted Emma mid sentence, surprising himself just as much as her. “Would you… like me to be?”
Emma’s face immediately drained of all fury as she looked the boy in the eyes once again. “Come on man…” She tilted her head just a bit confusedly. “You’re not really… thinking about…”
Max looked every which way. He hadn’t quite noticed beforehand but… the two of them really were getting more than a few “looks” from the other party goers. “I don’t want you to get in trouble…”
“Max… It’s not about getting in trouble. This isn’t the first time someone’s done this… and besides… I promised you that… you know…”
“I know… and I really appreciate it but…” The boy felt the butterflies in his stomach flutter all their way to his heart instead. “I’ve seen the way the others are looking at me. You know? And like… even you.”
“I mean… yeah. You’re a snack but… Max I have zero intention of forcing you into…”
“You wouldn’t be forcing me. It’s… something I’d kind of like to do…” Max couldn’t believe what he was saying, but he simply kept going, as if he couldn’t help himself. “But only if you’d enjoy it.”
Veronica’s quasi-authoritarian look had softened somewhat… as she listened to the way the two of them spoke to each other. Even Emma could notice something different in the way she observed them. Maybe… she’d misunderstood the whole thing but… she still had a job to do.
“He's just a boy, Emma.” the blonde offered. Though, the soft way she spoke suggested less that she wanted to demean their relationship, and more that she was attempting, in her own, misguided way, to soften the blow to Emma. “There are plenty of them back at the temple.”
The way she spoke dismissively about him drove Max into a shameful tizzy for a moment, but he managed to keep his attention on Emma. This, of course, put her in a limelight that she wasn't quite ready to be in. The frazzled girl was left to stutter uncomfortably in front of both of them, her face turning bright red as the expectation layed intensely on her.
“O…kay…” It was just one word, but it felt like an entire college essay to get out. Something about Max's behavior today had shaken her determination, though not her love for him. She was weaker than she'd once believed, and that shook her to her core. “B-but I get his ass! You hear me?”
“It's a deal.” replied Veronica. “You wanna watch or…”
“M-maybe I'll… ch-check in on him in a bit. I don't know…” Emma's world was more than a little rattled. She knew all it would take would be one word, and she could get everything back on track, but that one word clung stubbornly to her uvula. There was no way she was getting it out.
For Max's part, he couldn't help but feel equal parts shocked and loved all the more at what his girlfriend had just done. Of course, this was what he'd hoped for but… to hear her say it was another thing altogether. He wanted to be the best he could be for her. He wanted to be delicious. Something the other girls would be jealous to know she'd had all this time and they didn't. Still… reality was much more intense now that it wasn't all just some… hypothetical situation. Now, it was something very real, and very current. Still… he was going to fill his role in Emma's belief and life, and dammit if he wasn't going to do it better then anyone else she'd ever eaten.
“Love ya, Sharptooth~” he called out as Veronica began to pull him away. “I promise you won't regret it~”
Before any more words could be exchanged, Veronica had already herded the lad back to the middle of the park, whether out of a desire to keep things moving… or to separate the two, she’d accomplished both. Now… it was only her, Max, and the needlessly large grill… freshly scrubbed of char.

Before the two had even made it to the grassy main, they were struck with the scent of grilling meat, mingled with the sweet tang of barbecue sauce in the air. Though he hadn't noticed it before, Max now made out thin plumes of smoke that rose above the forest's canopy, and the muffled sounds of gagged young men whining and whimpering. He'd been to feasts with Emma before, but they'd always been… after the fact. At that point, the meal was far beyond complaining. He'd never really seen the… more intense parts of the process.
Emma seemed to catch the way his breath quickened as they approached. Her hand gripped his tightly, before she pulled him close. “Relax, Bologna.” she insisted. I’m here to make sure nobody slaps you on a grill.” She then quickly reached down to goose his rear, getting an appropriately feminine gasp from him. “Besides, if anyone is going go bite into your butt it’s gonna be me. Max blushed at the statement, for more reasons than she realized, or so he imagined at any rate.
Soon enough, the wall of trees was near enough that the two could make out some of the faces nearby. Naturally *she* was there, front and center like the attention hog she’d always been. “Emma hon~” Veronica’s friendly voice was a facade, both Max and Emma knew. “Yeah I guess…” Emma grumped, before taking a deep, cleansing breath and looking around. “Still. They’ve already got a smorgasbord of meat here. No need for her to be pushy.”
Max’s eyes darted around the park. Emma wasn’t wrong. Not three yards from them was a large, public grill, on top of which two bound pigs squirmed and writhed. Embers and smoke rose from underneath them in a consistently bright plume that left no question to the fact that they were cooking alive. Perfect examples of what Emma’s religion thought of men. Both looked away for a moment, trying not to say or lead into an impulse that they might regret. The place was really starting to hop, so to speak. Max looked every which way. He hadn’t quite noticed beforehand but… the two of them really were getting more than a few “looks” from the other party goers. “I don’t want you to get in trouble…”
“Max… It’s not about getting in trouble. This isn’t the first time someone’s done this… and besides… I promised you that… you know…”

“You wouldn’t be forcing me. It’s… something I’d kind of like to do…” Max couldn’t believe what he was saying, but he simply kept going, as if he couldn’t help himself. “But only if you’d enjoy it.”
Veronica’s quasi-authoritarian look had softened somewhat… as she listened to the way the two of them spoke to each other. Even Emma could notice something different in the way she observed them. Maybe… she’d misunderstood the whole thing but… she still had a job to do.
“He's just a boy, Emma.” the blonde offered. Though, the soft way she spoke suggested less that she wanted to demean their relationship, and more that she was attempting, in her own, misguided way, to soften the blow to Emma. “There are plenty of them back at the temple.”
The way she spoke dismissively about him drove Max into a shameful tizzy for a moment, but he managed to keep his attention on Emma. This, of course, put her in a limelight that she wasn't quite ready to be in. The frazzled girl was left to stutter uncomfortably in front of both of them, her face turning bright red as the expectation layed intensely on her.
“O…kay…” It was just one word, but it felt like an entire college essay to get out. Something about Max's behavior today had shaken her determination, though not her love for him. She was weaker than she'd once believed, and that shook her to her core. “B-but I get his ass! You hear me?”
“It's a deal.” replied Veronica. “You wanna watch or…”
“M-maybe I'll… ch-check in on him in a bit. I don't know…” Emma's world was more than a little rattled. She knew all it would take would be one word, and she could get everything back on track, but that one word clung stubbornly to her uvula. There was no way she was getting it out.
For Max's part, he couldn't help but feel equal parts shocked and loved all the more at what his girlfriend had just done. Of course, this was what he'd hoped for but… to hear her say it was another thing altogether. He wanted to be the best he could be for her. He wanted to be delicious. Something the other girls would be jealous to know she'd had all this time and they didn't. Still… reality was much more intense now that it wasn't all just some… hypothetical situation. Just long enough for a touch of bitterness to dissolve onto his tongue. Still, he managed to force the thing down soon enough. In time for Veronica to begin patting the corner of the unlit grill.
“Let's get you sprayed down before turning up the heat, cutey~”
Max had made his way onto the concrete foundation beneath the grill, just as the girl began to assault him with a barrage of city water. Max forced himself to lie down, much to Veronica's contemptuous approval, while the cannibal herself circled around to the other side. Placing herself at just the right angle to look down at him.
