Eventually, the nobility's gluttonous practices came to a fever pitch when they led to sickness among the queendoms. As they had not considered that their prey were still alive within them, the nobles also had not realized that they were only receiving raw energy from most of their meals, not vitamins and nutrients. As such, members of the elite began to succumb to a form of malnourishment despite how much rounder they were becoming at the same time. This became both a crisis of health and optics as the nobles felt the need to maintain their air of superiority as the most powerful magical practitioners in the land.

Especially when your meals literally cannot be digested and are just left to fester in your gut lol

oooooo, that's a consequence. Makes sense why mutualism became preferred... especially when you actually have to feed your meals, heh.

Yeah, it's less like having a meal and more like piling people into your gut to get a quick high for a bit lol.
