the history of this is short:
Raphtalia is in a field, trying to farm some exp in order to impress a certain someone. she spots the listener as a target. Being a modest character she’s hesitant to try something that isn’t a malicious creature, but decides to go with it, not wanting precious exp to escape her grasp
