A while a go partner was telling me about an idea she had for giant alien terrestrial leeches that once they eat enough neural tissue of a certain species they can replicate that species brain pattern stuff and essentially gain sapience multiple times over because leeches have multiple brains so each one can adapt to a different neural set up.

They stuff themselves until it becomes basically Cerebrus with 5 different fully intelligent consciousnesses arguing all the time.

They can also reproduce by mitosis with one personality/brain deciding to leave and over the course of weeks or months basically budding off a new Leech.
