a) she might not actually be able to see Spike- if you look carefully, you can see Spike's eyes dropping as he's released.
b) the human eye, amazingly enough, generally cannot see something at the edge of vision when something's going on in the centre of your vision.
c) I don't remember much short of the EoH doing anything to Discord before. Twilight KNOWS that, if she summons her friends, they can turn Discord back into a statue.
d) is there any reason that "my friends are already nearby" cannot include Spike? It could perhaps be better worded- as in "all my friends are already nearby" but it comes to the same thing. Spike was already nearby, so why would she need to summon him?
