LESSON TWO: PUSH-UPS

Pushups are some of the most basic exercises that one can do, as well as being the most well-known, right behind jogging and weight lifting. It's an exercise that you can do at almost any place, at almost any time. It helps build endurance, and it help with your arm strength and control. A good pushup involves keeping the body flat (no bending of the waist) as well as being on your toes. You then put your palms against the floor, and gently lower yourself before pushing back up. Make sure not to have your body touch the ground! While in this picture Rena is, in fact, touching the ground with her belly, this is on purpose for...other reasons, and should be noted to be an improper technique. A pitfall people fall into is that they should not be done quickly, and the best results are yielded from taking it slow, as one can feel while doing it. If you have trouble with doing these pushups, a good variation for beginners is to use your knees, but keep your feet in the air! Push-ups also have a few variations, such as team push-ups, where two people face one another while doing push-ups, high-fiving after raising up with alternating hands. Another variation you can do is called "Burpees", where between push-ups, you quickly get up, jump, and then do another push up, repeating.
