it's about the usage of permadeath for my characters and about removal of dead characters. if you care about
seeing my characters again, no matter if it's because of their design or their personality / background,
please consider reading everything.
poll rules:
everybody has one vote. feel also free to make suggestions.
i will try to make a list of short versions of suggestions across
my three main galleries (Furaffinity, Inkbunny and Eka's Portal)
if you have acounts on several sites, please vote only on one.
the poll will end on dec. the 29th
options:
#full permadeath= if a character gets roasted in a picture, he / she is considered "dead" and will be removed from the active
character pool. the character will no longer take part in any future episodes or free art.
#half-assed permadeath= characters can only die in official episodes and will never participate in new ones again. they can still
be used in free art.
#season-based character death= official episodes and free art will be subdivided into seasons. a character who dies in one season
will stay dead until the next season begins.
#lore-friendly character death= also known as "artist-friendly character death" will have all the characters think they're going
to die and have them respond appropriately. they will be unaware of "respawning", kind of like in a multiverse.
results:
full permadeath= 1
half-assed permadeath= 1-2-
season-based character death= 1-2-3-
lore-friendly character death= 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-
background:
i know many of my watchers like the idea of my permadeath rule.
i also know many others don't even know about my permadeath rule.
and there are probably a bunch of people who misunderstood my permadeath rule...
here's a little background knowledge to clarify everything.
when i began posting my drawings on FA first, i didn't really want to draw one character
over and over again (i have this mentality of never reviving a dead character from my pen & paper roleplaying)
with time, i "expanded" my gallery onto other sites like inkbunny, eka's portal and sofurry (the latter being not active anymore)
and i began creating a character pool i really like by now, especially with the start of my 3D art.
but now i realize how this roleplay mentality of mine will not work with the fetish stuff, as in roleplay i tried to stay alive;
the fetish characters though are made to be "killed"
and this is going to be frustrating.
why?
because when i talk about permadeath, i'm talking about removing the character completely from
the pool and never use the character again.
i talked with a few friends in the fandom and this is how i found out that people don't fully know what my
permadeath rule means.
this is also why i haven't been posting much free 3D stuff.
personally, i would like to change those rules a little to make it fun for me again, without having me worry about
deleting or overwriting a character that took me weeks, months or even years to create (yes, some characters i have a years old)
but i also don't want to make such huge changes in my "world mechanics" without consulting you, the fandom.
sure, those are technically my characters; i created them. but some people feel drawn to a character, some of you
maybe feel a certain nostalgia about specific character or have other reasons why you wouldn't want me to remove
a character from my pool.
my personal preference would be to have the characters be unaware of "revival"
they would still think they're going to die in the cooking process and act accordingly (based on their personality)
and they would never really talk about having someone eaten in the past, except if it fits the lore.
but i want you to have a chance of making a decision together with me.
that's why i will allow myself to have 1 vote in this poll as well ;)
if the full permadeath option wins the poll, this will probably be the last time we see ellenore :/
suggestion list:
1= creating characters for specific tasks. some that are made to survive and if they die, they stay dead, while having other characters specifically created for snuff, which are going to be roasted over and over again.

Aren't Season based and Lore friendly basically the same thing, just over a longer period?
And yea, perma-death's been a weird subject to tackle for ya, especially when the idea of clones got introduced with Chandra. Changing it down to season-based seems like the best solution to me, honestly, still allows you to tell stories where the character dies in universe, but also lets you use them again eventually. (Maybe even that french dog could come back!.)
(Yes, I'm still salty she lost)
Maybe non-important/irrelevant characters like the Doberman from the last pack or Ellenore's Pig friend would stay dead, since they likely would have no impact on anything, while characters with importance or potential, like Ellenore her-self or Xera (yes, I know she was a com, but she is canon, and being a princess kinda makes her important inherently.), would be alive and well in a few weeks/month depending on how close to the end of the season they were cooked.
This would let the finality of being cooked still mostly hold up while not killing off the actual characters for too long.
In the end, you need to do what feels right for you. I wouldn't let the poll be the sole decider here.

the difference between the season based and the lore friendly options is the frequency of roasting a specific character.
if i do one season every year, i can roast characters like sumatra or ellenore once a year, while with the lore friendly, i could have malasi on the menu twice or more in a year. this is good expecially if i have some really cool ideas for that one character.
the season based thing is just a little more work, since i have to keep track of all dead characters within a season, plus it could potentially be confusing for someone who hasn't been following all of my artwork, no matter if paid or free.
but i will respect your vote, if that's what you're voting for

That's a fair point, but I still think seasonal is best.
But, again, don't let a single poll determine this all, if the end, it's your call.

As for me, I must admit I never been fan of perma-death in general ^^" (well, I do have a fear of death in general too), so I always try to use respawning options in my own universe (thought to be fair, I neither wrote or drawn that much, and my commissions are closer to stand-alones artworks than following a story-line...)
But considering your universe, I think either the season-based option or the Lore Friendly are closer to my own preferences, especially if it mean you can cook severals time the same character ^^"
Thought, I do think the "Half-Assed Permadeath" would work best with your universe : with "offical episodes" and "spin-off / non-canon ones".
So, Half-Assed it is for me.

I think Lore friendly is the best choice, because if it was full perma dead, and you spent years making the character, like Ellenore here, and in say a year or so you want to use the character in something but you "Cooked and ate her" now you are likely to make a new character similar to the one that has been used up, in personality if not an out right character clone of the one used.

Lore friendly, for sure. If you've got a good idea, go for it. No sense in holding back or not doing it as well as you could 'cuz you used the character for something else.

Hmm... tricky question. I don't think this is somethink you should really leave up for a vote. You need to be comfortable with what you do.
I kinda enjoyed that you had a sort of 'official story' with sorta real consequences. But I don't see the need to not keep using chars outside of that story, doing what-if's or flashing back to points were they were still alive.
That'd be my two cents.

the "official story arc" will not end. it'll just be a little more like the simpsons, family guy or south park. i want some things to carry over to the next story and some to stay how they are.
so what are you voting for then ?

I'm much more in favor of Lore-Friendly. It allows far greater options creatively.
You can still make simple one-shot disposable characters, but those you've invested considerable time and lore into can still be re-used in a more episodic fashion (a la Kenny from SouthPark.)
Again, to conclude: I vote Lore-Friendly terms.

The way I see it, it kinda depends on how you want to explore your universe, if you're going for closed stories only (meaning all that happens in that particular story is only relevant to said story), then lore-friendly deaths works best. However if you plan on creating a set of stories/episodes that connect with each other (the season approach), then season-based deaths would make more sense. I would even go as far as to say that these approaches aren't mutually exclusive, since it's perfectly possible for you to cross work on closed stories and season episodes without the two influencing each other.
What I would hate to see is "revivals" in the literal sense of the word being incorporated in the story, where death doesn't have any meaning, it would suck away relevance from the plot and reducing it to just cannibalism porn in a very superficial/plastic sense of the concept, where world building would be just an after-thought, and I'm pretty sure that's the thing you are trying to avoid.

i want my stories to be "half-connected" kinda like many sitcoms work. in series like "family guy" or "the simpsons" most things don't carry over to the next episodes; some things, on the other hand, do.
having characters talk about how they ate each other once is not exactly what i want to do, except if it seems logical (for example if a character won a free clone in a lottery or something like that and then ate it or they ate the original so the clone took place)
the main reason why i started are three people i talked to recently.
one wanted to commission me to roast malasi,
another wanted to have a commission with
roasted sumatra and chandra and the third person
told me how people he/ she was talking to praised my permadeath approach.
i don't want to kill the characters i've been working so hard on only for a handful of pictures.
i also neither want to disappoint my watchers nor my commissioners.
but having full permadeath would mean there's always someone who'll be sad / frustrated / mad
and it's either going to be the artist or the fan.... always...
and i wasn't sure if people actually want to have a
win-loose situation with my stuff; if they simply want it to be part of the "necromuncher experience"
or if there simply has been a terrible misunderstanding

Then that sounds the type of situations that fit perfectly with what I was suggesting. Which is having either seasons or maybe one big over compassing story arc where there is sort of a continuity within that universe. And at the same time having short stories/commissions that are not canon to that arc/season. That way nobody gets disappointed, and if they do, then they are trying really hard to be disappointed.

Lore-friendly sounds like the best option. You have some interesting characters built up and it would be a shame for you to have to completely lose that effort put into them.
