A unique and rather curious specimen, the Anal-Barb Plant is a semi-carnivorous form of flora, which ensnares and feeds off of its prey by rather intimate means ❤

It lures its prey simply with its strange appearance, slowly writhing its hanging vines. The plant suspends upward some of the barbs at the end of its vines, very slowly swaying them back and forth. These movements are carefully calculated to induce a calming, almost hypnotic influence over any prey that happens upon it.

When a potential catch nears, the plant gently, yet assertively motions one of its barbs toward the prey, targeting their mouth by means of the heat from their breath. The barb inserts itself into the mouth, glides further back into the prey's throat, and continues down deeper inside their body. At this point, the prey is already helplessly caught, they may just not know it yet. Each barb at the tip of any given vine is equipped with at least three tendrils, They are soft, almost gummy in texture, and cannot pierce the insides of the prey, but they tense up at will to inhibit any attempt at removing the vine.

Additionally, every vine is coated in a supremely slippery sap, acting as both a lubricant to ease insertion, as well as deterring any attempts at grabbing hold of a given vine.

Once down the prey's throat, the vine continues into the stomach, then proceeds through the entire length of the intestinal tract, until finally arriving in the rectum and emerging from the anus. The prey is now effectively leashed to the plant through their entire digestive system. To secure itself comfortably, the invading vine typically wraps itself around one of the victim's thighs and keeps hold for the duration of their ordeal.

The purpose of this intimate capture and restraint is for the Anal-Barb Plant to feed off of its prey's digestive secretions. The juices produced by a human specimen's stomach and intestines greatly bolster this species of plant's efficiency at photosynthesizing sunlight, as well as absorbing nutrients from the surrounding soil. The victim's enzymes and other juices are absorbed into the entire length of vine that sits embedded in the victim's gut, and leeched out to the greater stem and core of the plant.

Interestingly, there seems to be no apparent need for the Anal-Barb Plant to harvest these digestive juices. A given specimen can survive an entire life-span without ever having ensnared human quarry. The leading hypothesis is that the plant does this simply for recreation, like how you or I may enjoy a nutritious snack between meal-times.

The prey pictured here will endure this gentle, albeit invasive treatment for several hours. Depending on how much the plant approves of her secretions, this victim may be stuck here for up to a full day. Once the Anal-Barb plant has had its fill, it carefully releases its catch by relaxing the vine's tendrils, and slowly retracts until it has completely left the prey's body. The victim is then free to leave and recover from their experience. They will most likely be hungry and thirsty above all else, as the plant will have cleaned out the entirety of their stomach and intestines. Any partially or fully-digested material will have instead been absorbed by the intruding vine.

Author's note: ...I wonder if it's possible to grow an Anal-Barb Plant indoors as a household plant...? No particular reason given.

The posing of the prey here is very similar to one of my previous drawings, "Beach of Bones". This was a similar idea I've had for a while, and finally decided to flesh it out as a sort of speed-drawing o3o
Granted, this took about 6 hours to finish, so not much in terms of speed, but I'm getting much more comfortable with churning out full-color works. Overall, another step in the right direction! \:D/
