Holy shit, it's so great to actually see Mai Shiranui pred! It's shocking how little there is of her eating up others! I haven't played SNK but she's easily one of my fave preds.

I think I prefer the new style. but it's up to you to decide regardless. A richer background feels like it adds life to a scene, but it can be time consuming. This said, I'm a writer, so I can't say much about art tips.
I say do what you prefer to do, and find your own preference!
