Clarice and Ian blow off steam in a tender, unique.
This is a story that took a few years between starting it and finishing it. I even started a sequel last year that's still only a few paragraphs right now. Clarice's unusual Gift is fun to play around with. This is in part inspired by a series by Willing Suspension of Disbelief that I haven't been able to find for ~ 20 years.

I have to assume the series you mention in the description is the Gynophagiox trio? It's one of my favorites as well. You can find it here: https://web.archive.org/web/20040815142127/http://www.mindspring.com/~gyrodyne/2.htm
If it's some other series by WSD, let me know. I'd be very happy to learn there's something else like this out there, even if it's buried.
