The Shade Witch stood helplessly in the grasp of the Electric Witch and the Cloud Witch. Or, rather, what used to be the Electric and Cloud Witch. What once had been two vibrant independent young girls had been replaced with two soulless puppets, their blank white eyes completely devoid of life.

Of course, it was no mystery where their souls had gone.

Standing before the captured Shade Witch was the ghoulish terror known as the Ghost Witch, who presently sported a massively rotund belly. And, as if befitting her title, the Ghost Witch’s belly was semi-translucent, allowing the Shade Witch to look inside of it. And inside of the spectral witch’s belly was two glowing souls, one yellow, one blue. The souls of the Electric Witch and Cloud Witch.

Appearance-wise, they looked exactly like the Electric Witch and Cloud Witch, minus their clothes, but below their waists their bodies ended with a small wisp-like tail. They were also devoid of all agency, their closed eyes indicative of their lack of awareness. And yet, still, they listlessly moved about, perhaps driven by some instinctive force to return to their bodies. But, of course, that was quite impossible now, as the Ghost Witch’s digestive chamber had proven to be an utterly impermeable prison that effectively sealed them off from the rest of the world. And so they pointlessly floated around, however little they could, inside their captor’s stomach. Like goldfish swimming about aimlessly inside an incredibly confined bowl.

Since they were still intact, they must have arrived not much sooner than the Shade Witch. Talk about bad timing.

The Shade Witch herself had sought out the Ghost Witch’s mansion in the hopes that some of her magical research might aid the Shade Witch in controlling her unruly, destructive shadow. Of course, she had heard the literal horror stories about the Ghost Witch, and so the Shade Witch had no delusions about receiving any charity or even cooperation from her. But she thought the sheer power of her shadow (both a curse and blessing in this instance) might be enough to get the better of the witch.

What the Shade Witch hadn’t counted on though was that the Ghost Witch already had the bodies of two other witches under her command. After infiltrating the Ghost Witch’s mansion, it wasn’t long before she was accosted by the two dead-eyed sentinels. Though lifeless, the bodies of the Electric Witch and Cloud Witch still possessed all the physical and magical prowess they had when they still had souls in them and proved to be formidable opponents. The Shade Witch defended herself as best she could, hoping that her heightened emotions would provide enough power for her shadow to dominate the battle. But the husks of the two young witches were just too much. While the Electric Witch’s body went on the offensive with powerful electric magic, the Cloud Witch’s body created rain clouds that steadily diluted and diminished the Shade Witch’s magic. Before long, the Shade Witch’s withered and receded, having little to no magic power to draw from. And so did the Shade Witch find herself captured by the two soulless slaves and brought before their master, the soul-devouring mistress of death, who was now looking at her quite hungrily.

The Shade Witch didn’t know why the Electric Witch and Cloud Witch had come to the mansion. Perhaps they had a grudge against her. Perhaps they wished to bring her to justice. Perhaps they desired her power. Or perhaps they just wanted something from, just as the Shade Witch did. Whatever it was, she supposed it didn’t matter now.

“Well, well, looks like it’s my lucky day,” said the Ghost Witch, stroking her hand up and down her bulging gut. “To think that three little witches would decide to pay a visit to my mansion in one day. I haven’t feasted like this in a long time.”

The Shade Witch quivered helplessly before the phantom as the fear of her deathly predicament began to set in. “…Please…” she weakly. “…I…I…just wanted…”

Suddenly, the Ghost Witch reached for the Shade Witch, grabbing her by the chin. “You wanted what? Power? Wealth? Knowledge? Prestige? Peace of mind?” The Ghost Witch smiled an evil smile, her ghastly green eyes staring right into the Shade Witch’s. “What you want is irrelevant. For, in the end, there is only death, and I am its master.” Her grip tightened on the Shade Witch, hurting and frightening her even more. “People have so many desires, but the only thing they will ever keep in this world is their soul. But even that I can take away from them.” The Ghost Witch licked her lips as she scanned the girl ravenously. “Yes, just as I will take yours. I will take everything you are and turn it into nourishment for me. And I can tell you have an exceptionally tasty soul.”

The Shade Witch was totally petrified by this point. She wanted so very much to get away, but her body was paralyzed with fear. Suddenly, the Ghost Witch forcefully pulled her chin upwards. Her hand emitted an eerie white glow that the Shade Witch could see only the periphery of her vision. Then, strangely, the Shade Witch’s vision was completely overcome by a glowing purple light. She began to feel very cold and then very sleepy. On the brink of unconsciousness, her head lilted down. And then there was darkness.
