(This is another installment in my Galaxy Of Peril setting, so far it’s all setting and no story, but I don’t care. )
Biology.
The tiger-kin are a humanoid race that are typically between eight to ten feet tall and muscular. They have no body hair and their skin can be a variety of different colors, but the most common coloration is orange with black stripes. Other skin patterns include white with black stripes, native to the arctic regions of their home planet, leopard print, native to some small islands, and pitch black, the rarest variation which comes as a result of random chance. Tiger-kin have black hair on their heads that turns gray then white as they age, this is the only clear sign of aging in a tiger-kin.
The tiger-kin have two cat-like eyes that help them see in the dark. They have a better sense of hearing than a human’s, just like their sense of smell. These mammalian people eat a strictly carnivorous diet, as evidenced by their claws and sharp teeth.
History
Tiger-kin lived on a single planet until discovered by humans who shared their technology with them and invited them into the Federation Of United Planets. Once they joined the federation they became some of their finest peacekeepers and showed a keen interest in terraforming technology.
Planets.
When given an uninhabited planet the tiger-kin terraform it into a dense jungle world filled with the deadliest animals they can find. These animals are then modified to be even more deadly. One of their favorites is the exzalanole, a deadly half reptile half insect from a death world jungle. On these planets the bottom of the food chain is usually made up of hucows, humans that were modified to have animal level intelligence and extremely high birth rates. According to most tiger-kin these are ideal living conditions.
In order to accommodate other alien races they build cities standing on stilts over the treetops. Whenever a person, tiger-kin or otherwise, is frustrated with the hustle and bustle of city life they can descend to the jungle below to hunt.
Culture.
Looking at a tiger-kin an uninformed person would assume their a stone age hunter gatherer society based on their wooden masks and loincloths, but that is only their clothing. In actuality Tiger-kin have access to all the technology the federation has to offer and their scientists have contributed to many developments in the fields of terraforming and handheld computers. In fact nowadays the wooden masks the tiger-kin wear are usually a form of mobile computer controlled by complicated eye movements.
Although tiger-kin have embraced space travel and all forms of technology they still maintain their hunter gatherer culture and have built upon it. Although most of their food comes from grocery stores they still dedicate much of their free time to hunting with their claws.
A tiger-kin will strip down to nothing but their mask and enter a hand made jungle designed to be as deadly as possible. A younger, less experienced tiger-kin is advised to avoid detection from predators and only hunt simple prey such as hucows who act as the bottom link of the food chain.
Other alien races are welcome to use these jungles as well and tiger-kin are happy to share their culture with anyone who’s interested. There are many humans who make regular use of these curated hunting grounds although they typically use wooden spears since they lack claws.
The tiger-kin depicted in the picture above is a young male who has returned from his first hunt. He is holding a paca skull. A paca is a five foot long, venomous insect that drinks sap from trees. The tiger-kin is using the digital camera in his mask to post a pic of his kill on social media. Once he was finished his human friends treated him to barbecued hucow.
