I did a dumb drawing of Aqua for a friend that blew up and became my most popular picture of all time, an order of magnitude more popular than countless labours of love (not that I don't love doing sketches for friends), which was what really pushed me over the edge.

I really really hate fan art of corporate media properties and I'd never have done it except as a favour (and I don't think I will again), I think it's shameful and demeaning and degrades the subculture of online artistic depravity which I've tried to keep faith in despite its ideals only seeming to exist in my own head. It's one thing to tell myself as a cope that I could be successful if I just drew generic pictures of recognisable animu characters, it's quite another to have it proven outright.

Anyway, the worst Death is a Death without love or hate- created by a stranger who doesn't know you and wouldn't care if they did. That's how interacting with corporate owned characters makes me feel, which is why it had to be Aqua.

Oh, yeah but I don't blame you at all. It wasn't drawing it that made me insane, it was it suddenly becoming my most popular work overnight. And even that was really just the tipping point, I'd been growing increasingly unhinged in my interactions with the community long before.

When I say fan art of big media properties is shameful and demeaning, I don't mean that as a condemnation of people who like it. I believe an artistic ecosystem free from corporate media is possible, but that's not the world we currently live in, and it wouldn't be so dominant if it didn't have a legitimate hold on people.

You're very sweet. I think I've been around and making stuff long enough though (ten years) that the core vore base have all mostly caught my vibe by now and decided it's not for them. If anything of mine was ever going to break out it would have been Gluttersaga, which is what I bet all my chips on over the past couple of years, but it hasn't, and that's fine. I don't think I'll ever make anything as big or as good, at least until I've lived another few decades, so the pressure's off in a way.

Honestly I wasn't really expecting anyone to understand everything. Even if you've read The Pit and The Tree, played Gluttersaga right the way through and unlocked the secret chapter, read Hidden Folk and Lake of Fire and Sapiens and Enzyme & Stone and Chalchi, and you're familiar with Norse mythology and Lord of the Rings and the book of Job and the Red Book and Konosuba...
