I guess she tells stories that are technically correct, but phrased in ways differently from ordinary people. So this story would be told as taking food from someone, implying taking their provisions, but actually meaning taking them as food.

Or her telling stories that are like "I defended our bunker by defeating 5 soldiers in 'hand to hand' combat" but it was more like "mouth to stomach".
