Akai sunk down past the edge of the sunlight, where creatures glow faintly in the darkness. With a recently emptied stomach, the shark silently hunted down a clueless lanternfish. Its glow directed her to its exact location. By the time the small fish was gazing down Akai's hungry throat, it was much too late. Akai snapped her jaw shut, and didn't hesitate to send the fish down the hatch. She was fascinated, watching the glow travel slowly down past her neck and into her belly. For a time, the lanternfish swimming frantically inside her stomach served as a warning for other prey. Eventually, however, the luminescent fish's glow would vanish forever in the bowels of the shark.
