This is beautiful. I've been holding off on writing a proper post-mortem until it's really over, when the king publishes his chronicle of events, but this is everything I ever wanted for you- to meet your own death without dying, and know you're not alone at the top and at the end, with all the dread that entails.
For far too long we both pretended to be crueller than we are, trying to cast the biggest shadow for fear of losing everything, and I'm glad that period is over, for now, and we can rest and be vulnerable and shed the constrictive skins of our smaller selves.
You really did lose everything, and here you are, a real girl. For the first time I'm afraid of you not because you're small and dead, but because you're alive and growing. Maybe you really can swallow me up- only time will tell.
