Escape

Selection day.
The bell rang the same as it always did, but to the ears of Bradley Swimmer the familiar sound had taken on the jarring portent of an air raid siren.
ôI donÆt know why you boys get so nervous on selection day,ö said Lisa. ôYou know itÆs coming and thereÆs no way to avoid it.ö
ôEasy for you to say,ö said Bradley. ôYouÆre not the one who might die today.ö
Lisa just giggled. ôThis is just the way things are. You were born a boy and selection day is just something boys deal with. If they pick you, then thatÆs just the luck of the draw. If not, then you get to...
