An adventurous young reporter with a passion for the paranormal goes hunting for her next scoop, but she might have bitten off a little more than she can chew...
Another short story (3K words), slightly outside my usual type. The tone is more creepy and somber, and there's no sexual content this time. Also, it's a fandom story set in the recently-released visual novel Dread Weight. People might be more familiar with its predecessor, Cooking Companions. Disclaimer: I haven't read any of the visual novels. I wrote this as a request for Runbot.
Fun fact: Renata in Latin means 'reborn'. I headcanoned Renata as being Italian, and Dimitri as Russian. Up to you to imagine Alice's nationality.

Thanks for the story. I really like how you did research into Renata's name and her belching is really funny. 100/100 from me.

Woo! Thank you, glad to know I delivered. It took me a bit of adjusting to get into writing it, but once I did it ended up being fun.

"First of all, even the best German pizza is just a pale imitation of Italian pizza. It wouldn't be the same thing."
Aaaaah, the true damnation of being out of your country is that your own culture's food is never as good.
Anyways, it was a fun story.

Thank you. Amid the horror, I wanted to throw in a dash of humour by referencing the (mostly harmless) stereotype that Italians are super-picky about food. As an Italian, I can confirm I am pretty picky but that's actually because I dislike a lot of typical Italian dishes like lasagna.

lol. I haven't a good sense of taste (kinda ironic when you're a vorarephile), so I'm not too much affected, but I can attest that sometimes foreign bread feels dogshit. I think in general "X cultural food" that's out of its region of origin will generally get bastardized to 1) fit the taste of the locals better 2) to be easier to produce quickly. It even happens within the sam
I do personally like lasagna, but I understand the feeling as I too dislike some french food (snails, wine in general, ratatouille).

Never tried snails but I don't think I would mind. I've enjoyed frog legs and baguettes in the past. I do like wine (red and sparkling) but I've cut down on drinking alcohol for health reasons.
I'm reminded of a videogame I used to play in my childhood. A restaurant manager sim where the protagonist was a young French cook trying to live up to his uncle's fame. Restaurant Empire.

Strangely, for how much people joke about the french eating frogs, I've only seen frog legs a handful of times. They're a pretty rare dish. Snails are more common though, and baguette are an ubiquitous part of the french diet, though we rarely dip into other kind of breads like the germans do. I don't drink alcool in general because of medical reasons, but I don't really like the taste either.
Checked out screenshots of the game. Funnily enough, the sequel was published by paradox interactive.
