The small one in the first panel looks like its so happy its limbs are stiff and it just is hopping to move towards it's mother. If that's its mother of course. xD

How big, exactly can those things get? I can see getting a few for a ranch, and I'd like to be able to keep them from just stepping over the rails keeping them in the enclosure.

Well, once they get real big and they have enough pastureland, they don't move around a whole lot.
Really it's just having enough grazing land to support them.
