Is a water caste Far Trader, basically the Tau equivalent to a rogue trader. She uses that, and the fact that she has a senile ethereal, to give herself a blank check for being horrible however she wants.

There's definitely a lot of examples of bullheaded, independent minded Tau in the fluff. They just have to have ways of getting away with it so that they don't get shipped off to the Happy Ethereal Fun Time Reeducation Arts and Crafts Center.
