A little sketch & note series I want to do, Species Spotlight, for a bit more world building in my furryverse. I haven't quite settled on the style for the comics yet. With a world full of different animals as people, there's bound to be some species that stand out for one reason or another, so I'll showcase a few.
Beginning with the Lesbian Lizards! Now, if you didn't know, the New Mexico whiptail is indeed a real animal - actually nicknamed the "lesbian lizard", I didn't pick that - and my first two points are mostly accurate. They are an all-female species that reproduce through parthenogenesis - their eggs hatch into baby females, but they need to stimulate their genitals to do this. The answer is hot, lesbian lizard sex!
So I thought about how this species would have evolved in my world here. As society grew and began accepting interspecies relationships, sex toys, and other historically taboo subjects, it was soon discovered that any sexual stimulation could cause them to lay a healthy egg. As a result, these lizard girls are very abundant all over the world. In spite of the name, some will take male and non-binary partners as well. Their children are considered to have only a mother, no other parent (since even an object could have caused their birth!). Some will live a family life for a few years, while others give their eggs to a care centre (where many of them grew up), often because they just want the experience before allowing themselves to be eaten - in a way, replacing themselves as a meal - a sustainable prey species!
I should mention too that you're looking at six different lizard gals here. They have similar stripe patterns, and slight shades of blue underbellies, but beyond that there's little variety - only one set of genes is passed down after all. First we have a happy couple, who maybe haven't decided on their special day yet (for these gals their "meal day" is prepared much like a wedding is). Second is a pair who were caught by canine preds - one is enjoying herself, while the other finds it rather uncomfortable. Last, we have a couple just beginning their romantic romp, before the pred who bought them swallows them for dinner - likely together, mid scissorin'!
That activity depicted at the bottom, "Last Date on a Plate", of course isn't exclusive to the Lesbian Lizards. Any prey couple can give themselves away to a fancy restaurant to be served as a platter. But this is especially popular for the lizard gals, as it fits their lifecycle well. Typically they meet another of their kind, date for a year and have a few eggs, then pick a special day to get eaten together in a fancy setting. What's more, they are in demand, and a good establishment will have a dozen Lesbian Lizard couples in their prey waiting rooms. They're said to have a unique taste and cool, soft bodies - and they tend to go wild for their final fuck, much to their pred's pleasure! Every fine restaurant will have their own version of the "Lesbian Lizard Love Platter".
Anyway, this is one species you'll see as part of the crowd in my world, usually there to get gobbled up! I'll have some more of these coming as I flesh out details for other animals, but let me know what you think of the ideas!

This is an interesting idea that provides one of presumablky many self-sustaining prey species for your world. I would imagine that species that breed in high numbers would also fill these roles, such as various Rabbit species, Frogs/Amphibians and potentially aquatic species like trout/salmon or Squids/Octopi.
Pretty interesting choice of lizard to base your species on. If you plan to give them little insect girls to eat, I'd recommend Aphids who actually clone themselves, so you can re-use the same design over and over. Or termites who would probably happily sacrifice themselves to ensure the Colony's financial survival, being sold as prey to keep it afloat =p.

Oh yes - most insect and rodent people have successful self sustaining systems going on - they know their role and provide themselves at a commercial level. However only bugs, and reptiles or mammals that "had fingers" became people - no sea life. I'm going to do a big chart later on that explains which animals are people, which are normal, and which have mutated into something else - and how they fit into the world.
Although, most regular animals have giant versions of their species that typically dine on prey citizens, sometimes even preds. See, prey people are so bloody abundant, plenty of them volunteer (or are raised) to become food for huge pigs and cows, and there's a whole entertainment industry revolving around feeding them to giant animals in creative ways. I've shown a zoo already, but I'm looking forward to depicting an amusement park that lets willing prey pick a waterslide or roller coaster - that lands them in something's stomach!
Yeah, when I found out about these "lesbian lizards" last year, started thinking about how I could integrate them into my world. I did do an aphid design a while back, they'd likely be a favourite of these lizard gals - they're one of the simpler looking bugs, while something like a bee has a few more features, but still very alike. Most of them are technically clones of a queen, anyway. It was bees who pioneered the idea of selling their fodder citizens as food to other species, making them the only really successful insect people of the Middle Ages. Today they lead the industry, and are often used as an example to other species that want to commercialize a portion of their population. And of course, most people sold as food have been bred for the role and are looking forward to getting eaten - it's the law in most countries, insisting that commercial prey people be designated at birth and trained for their role, have a full health check, and receive a grade. It's a big world, and the preds gotta get fed!

"Leaping Lesbian Lizards, Batman!" ...I didn't have much of a follow-up ready besides that I love how this came out.

Wow thats interesting, I never knew about this species, how crazy! And I really like your take on them :3

I know right? I was amazed when I found out about them; I knew there were reptiles that can have babies without being fertilized, but these gals went a step further! Thanks, I figured they'd fit into my world well

I absolutely adore things like this, uaing real world zoological phenomena and applying it to a setting. Genius use of the parthenogenesis to create a species that both tonally and functionally fits the setting wonderfully. Thanks again for even more of your brilliant work ^_^

Yes! The real world is chock-full of species you could fictionally evolve to fit your world - I get a lot of inspiration for this series by playing nature shows in the background, especially anything focused on feeding and survival tactics. Gets me thinking, how would all that change - or stay the same - if they became people?
Well thank YOU, I'm just glad you and others are enjoying this stuff so far! I have so much more to go with this one, it's still in the early stages really

Hey question did you delete the picture of Casey being Eaten by an NES?

Nevermind I found it.

Nah, I only got rid of Skyrim related pics so far, then moved every video game related piece to one folder - glad you found it already, though
