Second in this series, this one is less specific than the first - all about spiders! I wasn't satisfied with my first spider designs, but I think these ones work a lot better. The girl at the top is especially cute, I think she needs to be in a comic!
So spiders stand out quite a bit for their special traits. Having eight eyes, venom glands in their throats, and a single spinneret where the belly button should be (looks a bit like a nipple, that shoots silk). Pretty much all the info is there already, I wrote a lot this time - these arachnids are pretty unique in this world!
They very in size quite a bit, though most are not much bigger than insect people. However some can get as big as the larger pred species, like the tarantula fellow in the middle snacking on a chipmunk. Prefers his prey kicking and screaming, I guess!
All spider venom is pretty potent, but usually doesn't kill. A bite hurts a LOT at first (since spider mouths transformed to resemble something like a shark's...) but the poison quickly sets in, paralyzes the victim, and puts them in a state of bliss. It could be said that being eaten by a spider is an overall pleasant experience - no pain, and their stomachs are soft and stretchy (enough that many can eat prey slightly larger than themselves). Being in this spider venom-induced state is called a "silky sleep", and venom is sold in bottles on the black market for people to use recreationally (risky and hardly worth it).
Spiders are considered one of the "outcasts" of society, and most embrace their reputation. Confident and tough for their size, they are often found in friend groups and street gangs with other dangerous preds. Sometimes romances will bud here, such as that spider girl at the bottom with her leopard boyfriend.
To predators, spiders are either considered cute or annoying (or a delicacy to some, who favour the sour taste). But to prey animals, spiders are a terrifying nightmare...

Very nice. I like the variety between the cute ones and the absolute nightmare fuel in the middle.
One suggestion I have would be to include the spider's markings somewhere on their body like a tattoo. So a black widow could have her red markings as a tramp-stamp, or the orange stripes on a tarantula's legs could be a sleeve tattoo on their arm. I think it'd aid the punky outcast image.

Thanks! Yeah, I figured with the real-life variety of spiders, I could get away with lots of designs. Heck, there's dozen of eye arrangements out there to work with!
I was considering that - I'll definitely need to draw a black widow at some point. My bug people almost always have their patterns or details on their thighs, butts, and/or shoulders - depending on the real bug's look (that's half the fun of this whole project, I get to look up plenty of animal references!). So I'll do the same with specific spiders. Honestly a lot of common spiders are pretty plain looking though, so there'd be more solid black/brown/green ones wandering about.
As for tattoos, that needs it's own explanation page like these. A bit of method and functionality I want to go into. Spot fur removal, scale dying - and of course, flavoured inks!

How sweet that the punky, unpopular pred species like to stick together

Yeah, I thought it'd make sense - and be kinda cute - having couples like this, or really close groups of outcast pred friends who stick together, feeling like it's them vs the world

Very nice furry ideas you mix up with :3 i love they go after bad preds x3 like a oftan the bad taste of man/chicks that a few have like a thing lol

Thanks very much! Yes, likewise, any pred that's into "bad girls/guys" might look for a spider mate!

Nice bit of lore/worldbuilding in regards to Spiders, also nice visual variation for them as a whole. The multiple eyes do make these predators feel visually distinct and they would probably be unnerving to talk to, with all eight eyes tracking you as you spoke to one. I feel like they could probably get along with Mantises as a similarly feared insectoid predatory species. Plus you could have fun with the bladearms as secondary arms or as blades that grow out of the forearms. Or even their main arms, that make them rely on others to assist in clothing them.

Thank you! That's the beauty of this project, the animal kingdom is a gold mine of material. Spiders gave me an opportunity to create a particularly scary pred. I was kind of thinking that spiders, mantids, and scorpions will be my trio of scary bug preds (sure, there could be more than three, but I have to limit some things to keep this from getting too complicated!). I did draw the one mantis, but it needs some redesign - little more unique than that - and haven't started on the scorpions' look, but it's in my head

Hmmmmm... If I had to make a suggestion for Scorpions, it would be to have variety in their appearances, similar to spiders. Like a cute Scorpion with claws for hands and ones that have hands hidden inside their claws? Maybe they have stingers on their hands now, or smaller/easy to hide or retract stinger tails? Which helps them fit in more easily?

Variety probably won't be much trouble, a lot of that's in the face and patterns. Like with all of these, I'll look at diagrams of scorpion anatomy and faces, and see how my mind pictures it becoming humanoid.
Though I was going to make all people species have standardized hands and feet; human-like with subtle shape differences. Might integrate the pincers, and tails will likely be almost the same
