I know many of you have been anticipating the next installment of the Culinary Arts series, but I must confess that, although I've been working on that as well, I've also been quietly working on a separate standalone story. It's almost ready to share with you, and it's the longest piece I've written yet — the first piece in my gallery to reach novella length.
This story involves a girl who gets selected by lottery to serve as a spit-roasted entree at a high-end restaurant, with her younger sister offering emotional support during her preparation. It's a simple and straightforward plot, but as I wrote, it became clear that there was more to explore than I'd initially anticipated. The story delves into the characters' emotions and... Just another quick update so you can be on the lookout for it. A couple of weeks ago I showed a 5000-word preview of one of the scenes in the upcoming chapter to the person who provided a monetary donation to my efforts here, and they gave a positive review of it. The chapter is over 10,000 words now, and it'll probably be around 13-14K by the time I reach a good stopping point. It will be the second-longest of all of the chapters, so you're going to get a big one to chew on after such a long wait. I'm doing my best to get this out before Christmas -- that's my hard goal here.
I've also had some art done of some of the characters, and I hope to show some of that soon, too.
There have been two special occasions that would have been perfect for my comeback: the milestone of surpassing 10,000 views on the first chapter of School Lessons in the Culinary Arts, and the 1-year anniversary of the posting of the most recent chapter. Those two occasions have passed now, and yet all is not lost. In fact, an interested reader has contributed some funds to facilitate the completion of the current in-progress chapter. It's not a full commission, but a boost to help get me over that hump that's been in my way. I don't know if that person wants to be identified here, so I'll leave it to them to speak up if they so wish, but in any case you may address thanks to them.
It's been long in coming, and I've received a few inquiries about the status of the series, so I thought I'd better give everyone an update on the return of the cooking class series. I have, in fact, made progress on the next chapter! I've been quiet about it, because I was initially hoping to write a couple of chapters in advance before saying anything, so that I could start the next release with a few saved up to be released on a regular schedule. The reason for that is that my other (paying, but non-kink) writing work has picked up (which is good news for me, but not of much interest to anyone here), and thus I currently wouldn't be able to maintain the same pace as before while under the demands of my other writing work. But saving up extra chapters is looking like it would delay... [ Continued ... ]
I've just completed the commissioned story I've been working on, and once it's approved by the commissioner, I'll be posting it here, so be on the lookout for that very soon -- hopefully in the next day or so!
With the posting of School Lessons 10: Sizzling Fryer-Girls, the end is much more clearly visible. Three lessons concerning three different cooking methods have been completed over those ten chapters. There are three lessons remaining, which, as with the previous lessons, may need to be told in multiple chapters.
It's now been over three months since I began this series, and when I look back on my initial plans, I can't help laughing at the fact that I had originally thought it might be possible to tell the whole story in a single post. I've now written around 72000 words in this series (and an additional 11500 words were contributed by MagicianX, for a total of around 83000 words), which is a respectable size for a novel, though... Hey all! Everything's going well! I just wanted to say that I made a few slight revisions to School Lessons 8: Kentucky Fried Chicks. I hadn't given myself enough time for a proper read-through before I posted it yesterday, and when I did so today I saw there was room for a few minor improvements. It's nothing that changes the course of events, but I just thought you should know.
At the time of this writing, there have been 7 parts (or chapters) in the School Lessons in the Culinary Arts series, covering 2 cooking method lessons, and the response has been excellent. I have 4 more lessons planned, including the next one, which is deep frying, making a total of 6 lessons. I'm not sure how many of those lessons will require more than one chapter, though of course they all have so far. After that sixth lesson, this series will be over, but I'll likely write more in the same setting. After the conclusion, I will probably do a few one-shot stories of various types, and then perhaps start a new series.
There will also be a commissioned work posted here before this series is complete. There may be... [ Continued ... ]
Greetings, friends and readers! I have another announcement to make, this time regarding a permanent change to the schedule for the School Lessons in the Culinary Arts series. It turns out that MagicianX can no longer contribute guest chapters to this series, which means that there will be no chapter this week. As you may have known, we were taking turns with the chapters, which gave each of us two weeks to complete our chapters, while posting one of them each week. Since I'll now be doing this solo, it means that I can only post one new chapter every two weeks.
This also means I'll need to restructure some of the plans for the series, but nothing will change that has already been established or announced. As for any loose ends... [ Continued ... ]
In around 11 hours, the next boiling chapter of School Lessons in the Culinary Arts will go live! It turns out there'll be another chapter after this to definitively conclude the stories of the characters being cooked in this one, because it ran past 15K words and was in danger of becoming a novella for this part alone, and the rest of it will take almost the same amount.
For now, I'm doing my final pass over it, before posting it.
